arriving as the third outing of len faki’s recently established non-profit platform lf rmx, these previously exclusive edits take on a raging classic by courtesy of frankie bones, godfather of the north-american rave scene. the new hardspace mix bolsters up the characteristic vocal and synths for even more frantic effect but trades in the percussion for faki’s signature assault of claps and hats. these also dominate the stripped-back hardspace tool, which carefully builds momentum only around the sirens and some seriously sizzling low-end rumble. both of faki’s personal mixes capture the original’s raw energy, yet manage to appear in both sleek but powerful presence. as with all releases of lf rmx, the proceeds of this record will be donated to the berlin charity project straßenkinder e.v. to be used in actions against child poverty.

the third release by the paris based public system recordings knows no bounds or borders. a massive 2x12 inch compilation featuring the likes of fallbeil, innsyter, morah, buttechno and many more from the realms of heavy rust and wild animals. the heart beat of industrial noise resonating through weathered metal surfaces. psr003 is certainly writhing with wild tribal movement informed by the ferocity of feverish drum programming, waterlogged flanging and carefully degraded waveforms creating this fully engrossing and almost unclassifiable techno selection. it certainly puts an emphasis on the body aspect of ebm.

from 4lux to ten thousand yen, earl jeffers has been serving up plenty of upfront good time house music over the past few years, as well as steering the equally on point chesus alias. now he sidles over to the new melange label with byron the aquarius in tow, and the sun kissed vibes are positively pouring out of the record grooves. eira is where byron flexes some on-point melodic input, laying down ludicrously rich keys to ramp up the soul status of this damn fine garage-y bumper. the demo mix of eira resides on the flip and shows off a more stripped down, raw version that s no less satisfying on the ears.

the real thing (1989) turned out to be faith no mores most aptly named record as it presents the bands most revered line-up. mike patton on vocals proved a massive improvement on their previous singer. added at the last moment to complement a set of strong, funky songs, he joined roddy bottum on keys, jim martin on guitars, bassist bill gould and mike bordin on drums. the hit single epic proved to be just that, and is one of the most recognizable faith no more songs in their repertoire

on 7th august the godfather mike dunn presents an ep fuelled by a pumping heart of pure house, entitled ‘dj beat that shhh’ / ‘move it work it’. taken from his forthcoming album due for release in october 2017. both tracks capture mike’s essence, placing his trademark hip house booty style vocals and stripped-back, jacking drums centre stage. ‘dj beat that shit’ is classic, bumping 90s chi goodness updated with modern technology, whilst ‘move it, work it’ is a no-nonsence smoke and strobe throbber, that recalls the best of trax and dj international. for anyone who knows their shit, mike should need no introduction, but for those that don’t, he was highly influential in birthing the modern day dance music phenomenon, especially with tracks like ‘face the nation’, ‘god made me phunky’, ‘let it be house’ and ‘personal problem’. mike created hip house, dj’d with fellow legends ron hardy, larry heard and armando gallop, produced for house heroes armando, fast eddie and k-alexi shelby, and worked with the iconic voices of byron stingley and kym english. after a long absence from djing in europe, mike returned in 2015 to rock crowds at panorama bar, fabric, concrete, sub club and glastonbury, demonstrating why the chicago og is still very much in demand.

more than less, started from seoul, south korea, came back with 4th vinyl release “folka ep”, composed by joton, owner of newrhythmic records, based in north spain, leon. he is also part of more than less records, releasing “fragment ep” with soolee remixes in 2014. it had great success and been supported by many producers like surgeon, pacou, dvs1, invite, lakker, paul mac, samuli kemppi, unam zetineb, jeroen search and many more. “folka ep” has two new tracks, called “frontier” and “sendice”. these two tracks are remixed by japanese techno hero, dj nobu, and korean techno pioneer, soolee, again. the “folka ep” represents the conjunction of asianeuropean techno, which more than less has been pursuing. “frontier” has pure anlalog synth sounds with addicted melody line, based on rough sound textures. it’s obviously for the peak time of the dance floor. “sendice” has unique grooves which joton’s trademark and adding rhythmic loops gives numerous dance feelings. “frontier”, dj nobu remixed, gives hypnotic raw sounds and exotic feelings. it has subtle rhythmic factor and people can’t help moving their body. another remixer is, more than less records owner, soolee. it is 9 minute track, consisting with full of hypnotic sounds from the first to the end.

tutti hill’s ‘when the going gets rough’ was listed on the label of her arock single in 1964 but the record actually played ‘whoa whoa, baby take it slow’. at last this gorgeous mid-tempo dancer from ron miller and lee porter makes it to 45. the flip is a piano and voice demo from the same stable but garrett saunders’ magnificent baritone makes the song a must-have. what a pity he did not record more.

the third release on the emergent dreamtime label finds bobby bricks and miskotom sharing precious wax space with their own takes on laid back balearic house. bricks is up first, laying down a laid back house chugger propelled by fluttering synth lines that have spent time soaking up plenty of vitamin d. amazon blue does away with the drums for much of the tune, letting the new age synth tones do all the work before a mellow set of percussion comes loping in. miskotom has a more nocturnal feel at work on star master, but it s no less plush in its execution, while ad lucem ramps up fretless bass licks and plastic flute tones for another blissful excursion onto the astral plane.

the limited, hand-stamped presentation of the canoe releases matches the music contained within, all grainy and unusual but utterly tooled up for the club. nyra s pet project is providing a fascinating insight into the make up of this ever emerging artist, and tracks like -opening rhyme- are sure to pique interest from all kinds of adventurous spinners. while the track may start in a kind of looped up deep house headspace, after the breakdown it takes an unexpected, thrilling swerve into twitchy acid. -tape trek- is more overt in its surreality with its layers of pitched speech getting run through the mill and splashed over a primal drum machine beat. -galaktik- meanwhile has a touch of old skool rave about it, but it s far from an obvious throwback track. suffice it to say, we ll have whatever nyra s having.

previously spotted on udacha and sharing an excellent lp with a.e.m., dices has already demonstrated a knack for wonderfully delicate ambient compositions and off-kilter 4/4, and the goods just keep on coming via this stunning 12- for rough house rosie offshoot pandora. -part 1- is a wonderful opening gambit powered by lightly pattering percussion, while -part 7- enlists the help of nick ossia to float off into the swirliest of liquid synth baths. ossia is also on hand to help with the more abstract sonic shapes of -part 5-, while -part 3- provides a wonderfully energised, drum-rich ending to a truly standout ep.

tarsius is diego mapa on production, and jay gapasin on the live drums, which translates into a rolling, percussive and distinguishable sound that has become the tarsius signature. igado ep features three original tracks by tarsius and a remix by swiss dj and producer, manuel fischer.

miami deep and tech house label sports is hitting its third release with the sultry tones of greek producer salt, who offers up two original tracks of lean and mean tracks to get pumping to. quantum xl features punchy bass, dubby fx and seductive chords that burrow right into the heart of the night, while imago loop takes a sharp turn into dreamy broken beat crafted with light, airy drums and woozy pads for the most blissful of listening experiences. on the remix front, sylphe offer up a re-dub of quantum xl that fattens the bass up further and works more percussive angles into the mix, while martinez deftly swaps imago loop-s breaks out for a slinky micro house beat.

unknownmix was a band active in zürich between 1983 and 1992. their music is a mixture of free vocalism, new wave and industrial, they released five lps and three eps. out of their discography lux rec selected four tracks, remastered from the original tapes, and presented as a sampler ep. four tracks that fit perfectly to the label’s tonal view. an ode to those zürich days, when excesses and uncompromising choices were a badge of honour. and music was something to fight for, or fight with, or dive in and die.

burnskis and jon woodalls constant sound sublabel constant black continues its march into the underbelly of heads down club tracks with this installment from the hitherto unfamiliar constant. whether it s burnski under a different guise remains to be seen, but the quality of the tracks is the prime concern here. the a1 track is the perfect blend of tech house, with a hooky rhythm section and all manner of shimmering sonic delights spread out on top. the a2 taps a more reduced house vein, keeping the beats slender and the melodic elements subtle and dubby. the b side cut seems to merge the two to create a bubbling slice of swinging funk for the subliminal generation.

chris barker and si murray return to the fold as deep space orchestra on moreaboutmusic and deliver three tracks of quality across this 12” - from the detroit influenced ‘high priest of junta’, and ‘medina’ to the heavy jacking sounds of ‘inherent risk’.

fragrant harbour has invited general ludd s richard mcmaster (golden teacher) and tom marshallsay (dam mantle) to end the year long hiatus since the last fghb release. the first track what brings dark, african rhythms alongside meticulously structured techno elements, coming together to create an intense and maddening energy. later last night continues forward with interspersed percussion layered on top of inventive sub-frequencies bringing a constant pulse to the track. the fastest track of the record, making strange ends with more madness a hollow mid-low range drives unrelenting throughout, visited unexpectedly by frenzied percussive highs.

fleeting wax hits its third release with this bout of sinister, sleek disco for the darker dancefloor that finds bucharest-based duo valeriu borcos and eduard gabia getting remixed from a strong cast of characters. the ever prolific khidja is up first, turning -choose your colour gypsy dark- into a brooding, almost-rocking affair with an irresistible noirish tint to it. the label heads then get busy with a version that ups the arpeggios in a nod to italo amidst plenty of dubby fx, before mehmet aslan stretches out across the b-side with a more yearning version that lets a little light in on the situation. it s a diverse, potent bag of versions that do credit to the original while saying something new as well.

holic trax off shoot monoklo hits a third firing release now with a new ep from verrina & ventura. verrina & ventura are an italian pair who make fresh house and techno sounds and run the all inn, only 300 and howl labels. they are busy people who put out a lot of music and here serve up some brilliantly unhinged sounds for this darker, more club focussed series. up first, metaluna is a freaky track with shimmering voices and prickly, ticking percussion all underpinned by warm belches of sub-bass. it s a late night cut with plenty of unhinged atmosphere in its glitchy grooves. ork is less kinetic and more settled in a bulky, heavyweight groove. scraping perc and icy hi hats bristle and brim as muted synth stabs bring some colour and soul to the party. the deep and delicious dhrawn has big techno hi hats and more glitching, patchy machine sounds all run through with warming chords. trilling vocals go off in the distance and the whole thing manages to be emotive and human as well as devastatingly direct and dancefloor orientated. last of all, nihil is another visceral track with industrial synths, scurrying bass and sliding drums that makes you want to jerk your body. this is a brilliantly off balance ep full of arresting and inventive grooves aimed squarely at the floor
